barkyv helps you keep your pets' health records organized in one place — visit summaries, medications, vaccines, lab results, imaging, and the original documents they came from. This page explains what we collect, why, and what we do (and don't do) with it.
Your email address, and your name once you provide it (used to help match records a vet clinic sends in your name). If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile info Google shares for sign-in — your name, email, and profile picture, nothing else.
The documents you upload or email in (PDFs and photos of vet records), and the structured information our extraction pipeline pulls from them — visit summaries, medications, diagnoses, vaccines, weight history, lab results, and imaging reports. Anything you type directly (a pet's name, breed, date of birth, notes) is stored the same way.
The Find a Vet feature sends whatever location you give it — a typed zip code or town, or your device's location if you choose to share it — to Google's Places and Geocoding APIs to find nearby clinics. We don't store a history of your location beyond that search.
If you subscribe to the paid "Ask About Records" feature, your payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe passes us only your subscription status.
Standard request logs (via Cloudflare, our hosting provider) and a session cookie that keeps you signed in. No third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
Beyond running your account, we may use pet health information in a de-identified, aggregated form — stripped of your name, email, and anything else that identifies you or your pet individually — to:
We use a small number of vendors to run barkyv, each only for the specific job below:
We also share pet records with a veterinary clinic only when you explicitly create a share link for that clinic — you control its expiry and can revoke it at any time. We never share your records with a vet, insurer, or anyone else without your action.
We don't sell personal information to anyone, and we don't allow these vendors to use your data for anything beyond providing their service to us.
We keep your account and pet data for as long as your account is active. Deleting a pet or your whole account removes its data — this isn't a soft delete; the records, documents, and any shares tied to it are actually removed from our systems.
All traffic to barkyv is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to your pets' records requires a signed-in session tied to your account, and every record-level request is checked against who actually has access to that pet — not just who's signed in. We also rate-limit the features that call outside services, so a compromised or scripted account can't run away with your data or our infrastructure.
Because barkyv organizes animal health records, not human medical records, it isn't subject to HIPAA (which only covers human patient information) — but we still treat your pets' records as sensitive and handle them with the same care described throughout this policy.
barkyv isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
If we make a material change to how we handle your information, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know directly.
